At 16:00 on October 25,the Olympic channel and digital platform of China Media Group were launched in Beijing. It is the only communication platform in Mainland China that has been authorized by the International Olympic Committee to use the Olympic name and the five-ring logo. The external call sign of the TV channel is CCTV16, which is the first professional sports channel that broadcasts 24 hours on the satellite in the 4K ultra-high-definition standard in the world. Meanwhile, the digital platform will cover the PC, APP, and H5, as well as WeChat, Weibo and other new media platforms.

The launch of CCTV16 will provide a comprehensive boost to the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics 2022. The broadcast of the Winter Olympics and related programs will be undertaken by the Olympic Channel. Of course, the Olympic Channel is not only used to support the upcoming Olympic events, but also for all Olympic themes, and will always focus on the broadcast of the Olympic content.

After the Rio Olympics 2016, the International Olympic Committee opened a dedicated channel for global Olympic resource allocation. It can provide content support for CCTV16, and CCTV itself has also accumulated a lot of wonderful games in the past Olympic Games broadcasts.

Meanwhile, China Media Group proposed to create a channel content system of "Core Sports Events + Featured High-Quality Programs + Social and Cultural Activities".

Jiang Wenbo, a member of the editorial meeting of China Media Group, introduced that: "Olympic Channel (CCTV-16) is a channel for simultaneous broadcasting of 4K and HD, where 4K is AVS2, and HD is AVS+."

The AVS Workgroup is a standards organization approved by the former Ministry of Information Industry Science and Technology Department. The AVS Workgroup has been running for 19 years, and has completed the formulation of three generations of AVS standards, realizing the development from following and running to leading. The first-generation AVS solved the problem of the lack of independent audio and video standards from the source, and drove the development of China's independent standards, self-developed coding equipment and terminal products. The second-generation AVS has achieved the goal of running in parallel with international standards. Since AVS2 was originally designed with support for a large number of HD video streams as well as 4K content, the architecture of AVS2 can also be used for 8K images. The Main-10bit profile supports multiple levels of 4K and 8K contents from the typical 60fps to 120fps. AVS3 is the world's first audio and video source coding standard for 8K and 5G industrial applications that has been launched. It is of great significance for accelerating the integration of AVS3 and 5G new media and completing the deployment of China's AVS3+5G+8K industry leading the world.

As early as 2018, the application of the AVS standard to support 8K in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics was already under preparatory work. The CCTV-16 adopted the AVS2 and AVS+ standards promulgated by the Zhongguancun Audio-Visual Industry Technology Innovation Alliance, which not only transformed the application of the AVS standard and realized the implementation of the scene, but also provided a powerful boost to accelerate the development of China's audio and video industry and promote the AVS standard to empower the industrial economy.

It is believed that with the opening of China's new trillion-RMB UHD market, the AVS standards will bring tens of billions of economic benefits to China's audio and video industry with its own technical advantages and independent intellectual property rights. In the future, the Zhongguancun Audio-Visual Industry Technology Innovation Alliance will continue to integrate industry resources, lead the innovation of AVS standards, and drive the leap-forward development of the ultra-high-definition audio and video industry.
