The China Media Group launched CCTV 4K Ultra HD Channel - the first ultra HD TV channel in China. The cable TV networks in 13 provinces including Beijing Gehua, Guangdong, Shanghai Media Group, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Guizhou, Chongqing, Jiangxi, Anhui, Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Inner Mongolia and Shenzhen Topway launched the CCTV-4K channel on the same day. The 4K ultra-high-definition channel launched this time adopts the AVS2 national standard, CA of the national secret algorithm, domestic encoding equipment, and independent chips. The application of AVS2 officially kicked off.

In order to promote the development of 4K ultra-high-definition TV, guide TV stations and cable TV, satellite TV, IPTV, and Internet TV to carry out 4K ultra-high-definition TV live broadcast and on-demand services, and ensure the quality of 4K ultra-high-definition TV production, transmission, reception and display, the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) issued the Implementation Guide for 4K Ultra HD TV Technology Application (2018 Edition)" (referred to as the "Implementation Guide") to the provincial bureaus of radio and television, the General Office of the China Media Group, and the units directly under the NRTA. The Implementation Guide clearly states that the video encoding uses the AVS2 standard. This marks that the second-generation AVS standard (AVS2) has become the only video coding standard adopted in the Implementation Guide by virtue of its excellent performance and independent intellectual property rights after the full promotion and application of the first-generation AVS standard.

The Information Technology – High Efficiency Media Coding – Part 3: Audio (hereinafter referred to as AVS2 Audio Standard) was promulgated as a national standard by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China, with the standard code of GB/T 33475.3-2018. By providing a complete high-definition 3D audio-visual technical solution, it is matched with the second-generation AVS video coding (AVS2 video), which is a high-quality, high-efficiency audio coding and decoding standard more suitable for the needs of ultra-high-definition and 3D and other new-generation audio-visual systems. Its promulgation and application make China's independent audio and video standards fly together, and accelerate China's audio and video technologies and industries to enter the age of "Ultra High Definition" and "Ultra High Efficiency".

According to the document (YXGJ [2018] No. 63), the Radio and Television Administration of Guangdong Province will adopt AVS2 standard in the 4K action of Guangdong Province.
