Information Technology – High Efficiency Media Coding - Part 2: Video passed the review of Standardization Administration of China, and was announced by General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the Standardization Administration of China as a national standard (National Standard Announcement of the People's Republic of China No. 27 [2016]), and its standard number is GB/T 33475.2-2016, which will be published and duly implemented on July 1, 2017. Information Technology – High Efficiency Media Coding is the second generation AVS standard (referred to as AVS2). The video coding efficiency of AVS2 is more than double that of AVS+, the previous generation standard, and the compression efficiency exceeds the latest international standard HEVC (H.265). AVS2 also designs scenario coding mode for surveillance video, and the compression efficiency is twice higher than that of HEVC (H.265). It is completely ahead of the international standard and can support the healthy development of China's video industry from the technical source, which will bring huge industrial value.

High Efficiency Coding of Audio and Video - Part 1: Video was issued by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television as a radio and television industry standard, with the standard number of GY/T 299.1-2016. Effective immediately.

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the Standardization Administration of China issued the National Standard Announcement of the People's Republic of China and promulgated the Information Technology - Advanced Coding of Audio and Video - Part 16: Broadcasting Video (GB/T 20090.16-2016) as a national standard, which was implemented on November 1, 2016. Following the comprehensive promotion and application as an industry standard in 2012, AVS+ has officially become a national standard.

The 56th Meeting of AVS Workgroup was held in Hangzhou and the result of the AVS Industrial Technology Innovation Award 2015 was announced at the meeting. After review by the expert review committee, "AVS Industrial Technology Innovation Award" awarded 1 individual award, 2 team awards, and 2 unit awards. Dong Wenhui won the Individual AVS Industry Technology Innovation Award, the AVS2-P2 Benchmark Grade Compliance Test Team and the AVS2-HDR Standard Research Team won the team award, and Beijing Donghua Guangxin Technology Development Co., Ltd. and Sichuan Jiuzhou Electric Group Co., Ltd. won the unit award.

The Science and Technology Department of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television and the National Radio, Film and Television Standardization Technical Committee organized a review meeting of the radio and television industry standard High Efficiency Coding of Audio and Video Part 1: Video (AVS2) in Beijing, and the review committee unanimously agreed that the standard passed the review.

The China National Information Technology Standardization Committee organized the Approval Meeting of National Standard Draft of Information Technology - New Media Coding Part 2: Video in Beijing. The Approval Committee approved the draft and recommended that the name of the standard be changed to Information Technology – High Efficiency Media Coding - Part 2: Video.
